New bike, same fit
The question I get asked most often is, “what size is your frame?”. My answer is that I am a small but just because I look small doesn’t mean the bike will fit you. When you order a bike from Canyon the team will make sure you get the correct size and a close fit but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get a proper bike fit. When I receive a bike from Canyon it is always set up pretty close to what I need but I always check and make sure its correct.
I typically use Nick Formosa from Bike Fit Studio in Brisbane, however, after receiving the new Canyon Speedmax CFR, while on the road, I have had to seek out another fitter. The good thing about the Retul system is that there are many great fitters around the world that use a consistent system to ensuring your fit is always correct. I was lucky enough to have some time with Jeff Sherrod from Precision Bike Fit here in Salt Lake City.
Body assessment
We started with a body assessment to see my limitations and any biomechanical changes.
Geometry assessment
With the new bike came some different geometry but the great thing about the Retul fitting process it that it provides data to create the most bio-mechanically efficient position. We basically started with an assessment of my current position on the old Canyon Speedmax CF SLX. We checked the metrics on that bike and discovered a few areas we could make some slight changes to gain some efficiency and power. Fortunately the geometry of the new bike made these changes easy.
Transfer the fit to the new bike
We then took the measurements from the old bike and transferred them over to the new Canyon Speedmax CFR by using my riding position data from the first fit. We made some small adjustments to identically tie the riding position.
Make some small adjustments
One noticable factor with he new Canyon Speedmax CFR is the adjustability. Because of the adjustability we were able to make some small adjustments for power and comfort
Lock it in
We then rolled the bike next door to make sure the bike was fully secure following the adjustments.
Test and test some more
Now we test the comfort of the position for the next few months before hitting the track to test my power and aerodynamics.
